Who gathers here

A diverse and inclusive community

On any given Sunday this room holds students and grandparents, market traders and surgeons, lifelong believers and people who came because a friend would not stop inviting them. We are not a single kind of person, and we have stopped trying to be.

What holds us together is not sameness but Christ — and a shared refusal to let anyone sit alone. When everyone feels they belong, we are stronger, kinder and considerably harder to discourage.

How we began

Our Story

Courtyard of Christ Light Ministry started in 2009 with eleven people, a borrowed keyboard and a front room in Ikeja. The name came from a simple picture: a courtyard is the part of a house that has no door — you walk in from the street, and you are already inside.

Fifteen years on, we meet in a building we prayed hard for, run two Sunday services, and support outreach across the city and two mission partnerships beyond it. The keyboard was returned. The open courtyard was not.

Beliefs that unite us

Our teaching is plain, unhurried and rooted in scripture. If you want to know what we actually believe, the fastest answer is to listen to a few Sundays.

Our Core Values

Five convictions that shape how we teach, how we spend and how we treat each other.

A local church, part of the global body of Christ, led by a team of pastors and accountable to a board of trustees. We are non-denominational by conviction and cooperative by habit.

That the Bible is God's word and trustworthy; that Jesus Christ lived, died and rose again; that salvation is a gift received by faith and never earned; and that the Holy Spirit is still at work in ordinary people this week.

We would rather be truthful than impressive. Our accounts are published, our failures are named from the front, and our leaders are allowed to say they do not know.

Nobody has to sort their life out before they are welcome. You can belong to this community while you are still deciding what you believe — many of us did exactly that.

A church that only serves itself has misread the assignment. A fixed share of everything given here leaves the building — for food, medical outreach, school fees and disaster relief.

Meet Our Pastors

A small team with open diaries and no interest in being unreachable. Every one of them still sets up chairs.
